This isn’t even mine. But I wish it were.
Char Sui baos are delicious buns filled with BBQ pork that are either steamed or baked. The baked baos have a honey glaze. But you knew that already. I like them because they are iconic dim sum food.
Egg tarts are divine. But not all egg tarts are created equal. The best egg tart I’ve ever had was in Japan. I’d love to tell you exactly where but I don’t remember. It was this tiny shop situated in an open air shopping mall. They were steaming hot with the most crisp, buttery crust.
The second runner up are the egg tarts in Hong Kong. This shop had many different flavors of egg tarts including coffee and egg white only fillings.
Finally, the cocktail bun is a long bun filled with a concoction of coconut sweet paste.
When I was a kid, my mom would go to Victor’s Bakery on Taraval Street in San Francisco & dash in for fresh baked buns. We’d eat them for breakfast in the car because with treats this good and this fresh, you can’t wait.
