Everyone tells new moms:
Baby sleep, you sleep.
I don’t think sleeping when baby is is always practical.
But what about the mommy’s grumbling tummy? We have time for things that are important to us.
To me, eating at least three meals & two to three substantial snacks per day is important.
Especially now that I’m breastfeeding? Boy, I really can’t afford to miss a meal. Moms know, you need the extra calories because you are burning it up! Or baby is slurping it up! Whichever.
New moms be kind to your body. Snack smart and eat when your little one does if you haven’t found the time to sneak in meal/snack time for the provider of all or some of your baby’s nourishment.
Choosing to nurse my son is by far one of the best decisions I have ever made. Nursing isn’t for everyone for but me personally, it’s a really sweet time for baby & I.
I’ve gotten the advice to pump so that others can help you feed baby. I pump by necessity, if I have to be away from baby. I don’t particularly enjoy pumping so I try to only do it when I have to.
Doctors have told me to pump once a day after 6 weeks, after your baby has adjusted to breastfeeding. One hip doctor says she suggests pumping after 4 weeks, which I did.
Pumping is a whole other story. Some days you get a ton of milk and other days, oh just a few drops. I find the whole process frustrating.
Note to handlers of breast milk: Do not waste the milk.
It takes a lot of blood, sweat & tears to pump. Okay, maybe not blood. But don’t you waste. Mommies will be pissed.
