Whatever beings there are, may they be free from suffering. Whatever beings there are, may they be free from enmity. Whatever beings there are, may they be free from hurtfulness. Whatever beings there are, may they be free from ill health. Whatever beings there are, may they be able to protect their own happiness.
–Karen Connelly, The Lizard Cage
For the first time since baby’s arrival, I’ve poured over a new book. Not instructions from his pediatrician or articles about infant development, but a non-parent related book.
I am excited. Eggsy is at the piano & I am deliciously savoring the words on the page.
Yesterday, we stumbled upon a unique yogurt establishment called Jougert in Burlingame. It’s ranked 42 of 100 places to try in the U.S. by yelpers. Yelpers don’t lie (usually).
I choose a savory offering of the Greek yogurt. Sedi’s Touch is topped with rose bud, cucumber, sea salt, pepper, dill, walnuts, mint… & I substitute the raisins for black figs.
I was delighted at the sight of it & the rose was sweet over the figs. Or the figs were sweet under the rose.
Halfway through I struggled to finish. I suspected a sweet concoction would go down easier. Happy to try, unsure if I’d revisit. Perhaps for the Black Diamond: full of dark chocolate, agave, blackberry & mint.
Little treats remind me of the goodness surrounding us. May all beings, whatever they are, be able to protect their own happiness. Even more, I hope we can protect the happiness of those we love now & those we’ve yet to meet.
