The lovely Rhon Rhon took me to an excellent birthday dinner at Marlowe. The self-proclaimed “New American” cuisine is a host to small bites (of which we had many) & mains (in which we mainly shared).
We started with the deviled egg with bacon & pickled jalapeño. A neat, surprising kick. Tiny but mighty! I love eggs!
Next, we had to try the brussel sprout chips. Lemon & sea salt elevate this simple way of helping us eat some green. Perhaps baby will have this in the future if he is adverse to the brussel.
The baked oysters are flavorful, resting on a bed of sea salt. We’re practically in the ocean in here! They also like their bacon here (sorry Rhon Rhon).
The duck liver mousse is rich & we could not finish the generous portion. More toasties were in order.
This is the reason I wanted to come. Crab crepes! I pictured giant crepes of course. These dainty crepes were delicious with creme fraishe. Baby would have liked them; they are just his size.
In line with the rich routine, we had to try their bone marrow which was lush meat butter, as Rhon Rhon accurately described. I ate the marrow with the mousse. Indulgent, I know.
We finished our savories, with the polenta with wild mushrooms. The aroma was filled with truffle but we could not detect in taste. Ah, the truffle escape artist! Polenta heavy, delicious, & filling. Poached egg to give us something to write home to mom about.
Our desserts were a coffee ice cream with a meringue cookie base & a strawberry shortcake. The ice cream was surprisingly complex with the cookie being the standout star. The shortcake was dense, delightful & incredibly filling.
The food was good without a doubt but the best part was spending time with my Rhon Rhon.
Life is funny. It has all kinds of challenges to keep you on your toes. It’s also filled with people to help you laugh at the funny & not so funny parts. I adore this girl. I’m blessed to have her & so many others in my life.
Cheers to another year of mostly ups, a few downs & plenty of love for my good friends & amazing family.
This little pianist keeps warm while he plays the blues. He knows, I always come home, looking for him.
