I turned 31 & it was awesome. An impromptu dim sum date with my mom, dad, brother, baby & Calmsy at King Wah turned into a theatrical experience. Lovely to be with my special ones & Calm got me beautiful yellow roses! Thanks pal. We’ve been friends a decade plus & I love you so.
All the young’uns got there first so we had to bide our time before the knowing ones arrived to order & order well.
Some gai lan (greens), sticky rice & shrimp stuffed mushrooms to start.
It’s pretty fun being a boy mom. The child is audacious & wild, sweet & tender. Truly the best thing that has ever happened to me.
Here’s a selfie of me & the boys. Little Eggsy has learned to stick out his tongue like a turtle. Endearing, really.
Later, Calmsy & I went for a walk & ending up with a mall snack.
The Nathan’s beef dog on a stick is a winner. I don’t get to have this often but when I do, I love it.
My mom was super today. She watched baby while I stepped out for a bit & at night so I could concentrate on dinner. At Stella Alpina Osteria in Burlingame, it does feel like you’re in Italy. The little restaurant is a touch hidden, with a descent of stairs reminiscent of its Italian roots. The sparkling wine had me feelin’ fine.
The patio seating has heat lamps for every table but not needed because it was early & beautiful out. My handsome date helped me finish the gruyere cheese fondue with black truffle. The apple especially tasted divine with the intertwining flavors of sweet & savory.
The off menu truffle gnocchi is absolutely delicious down to the last drop of sauce. We sopped up the sauce with homemade focaccia bread. Baby would love this since its soft yet chewy, flavorful & well, a carb.
HB had the veal shank with mascarpone polenta. Delicious. The marrow was succulent. I ate more of his food than mine because I was cheese wasted! Whoo, what a crazy night (at 7pm)!
I had the filet mignon. A perfect medium rare, the gorgonzola & mushrooms was why I wanted this dish. But the very reason for its appeal was the reason I could have but a few nibbles. I was all cheesed out. A shame.
The blackberry sorbet was light, very sweet & cleansing of my cheese sins. I wish for the same thing, every time I blow out a candle now.
A heartfelt thank you for my mother for bringing me into this world. You have & continue to teach me so much. I’ll always be your girl.
Thank you to my fabulous family & friends who always show me love in so many ways. I appreciate all of you. Missing my Seattle Smee & wonderful friends that live in great & faraway places.
Special thanks to Jeany, Rhon Rhon & Epic for making this birthday lovely, delicious & memorable. I love you! You already know that though.
