I have the best people around me. My two lovely girls, Romy & Caro, helped me celebrate another rotation around the sun.
I’ve been dying to try Izakaya Sozai forever. This is not a baby-friendly place: it is small, cramped, with loud music & quite warm inside. There is always a wait.
But the food! Oh, it is so good. We were also celebrating two decades of friendship too.
My favorites were the ramen, tuna tar tar & takoyaki. We loved everything but the daikon salad.
The albacore carpaccio was fresh & delicious. Tapas is perfect for girlfriends who love to share & taste a little bit of everything.
The agadashi mochi was so good. Mochi is food of the heart, I’m pretty sure. Chewy morsels of heaven.
Romy knows I love foie gras. Perfect serving for three women with a sweet sauce over buttery, toasted bread. Little flowers dotted along the top.
The ramen was surprising & perhaps some of the best I’ve had in SF. I will be back for more of this. The broth is rich & flavorful. Pork belly is king.
The tuna tar tar was like Japanese nachos on lotus chips. Surprising amount as we kept chipping away at it but there was always more left. (Get it? Chipping away?! Haha.) We finished things off with bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms & their seabass yakitori. Both delicious. Amazing how they can stuff so many little enoki mushrooms inside bacon.
The takoyaki, again best in SF. Light & crispy. The peach and apple sake were served in wine glasses, with ice, & tasted like water. We drank it still.
I’m glad we had the green tea cheesecake because I really liked it. Rich, creamy & not too heavy, we were quite full & happy little clams closing down the place.
Thanks to these two dashing girls who remember childhood crushes & dreams when we were oh so young. Now we’re older, braver & still shining bright.
A lot of things have changed for each of us. Some things never do though, like the bond between true girlfriends. I love you dearly & I can’t wait to see whose boobs sag first. Doesn’t really matter, I guess, because we’ll all be laughing.
