I am hopelessly falling deeper in love with my son. He cooes “mum” & “mama”, melting my already feeble heart.
There is a serious vulnerability now. As a mother, I long for his safety, care & growth. I long for these things along with wanting to hear him laugh, play & dance.
Quite fitting then, that we discover what is the best chicken & waffle ever.
At Ole’s Waffle Shop in Alameda, they’ve been churning delicious waffles since 1927.
I take my responsibility to try their waffle & made to order fried chicken dutifully.
This combination is so amazing, I let baby try to get a second opinion. Eggsy eagerly awaits more nibbles of waffle & chicken, so I know we’ve stumbled upon a gold mine.

The chicken fried steak was thick, notably smothered in gravy & also delicious. I want to talk waffle though.
This perfect batter: rich, flavorful & stands up to a mess of butter, syrup & chicken. The cook in the back chatted me up about my chicken which he freshly battered & fried. I love fried chicken of all kinds but this chicken is the golden standard. Tender, juicy, fresh. Just like my baby.
After purchasing two hiking backpacks in anticipation of future adventures, we met up friends at Ha Nam Ninh in the Tenderloin to get our pho fix.
I like the dry pho with seafood here. Friends get the beef pho with raw beef on the side, which looked exquisite.
My pho is shared with baby who did a moderately good job. We serendipitously bumped into more good friends, which expanded out table into a pho-loving party. Baby was a little ham (probably a little loopy from the kombucha I enjoyed).
Here we are ready for adventure! Cheers to not throwing out my back! I calculate that baby + carrier are a little under 25% of my body weight. I pray my back & knees can handle the load. Seriously, I’m nervous.
