The big deal

We be clubbing

Just kidding, we don’t go clubbing anymore. That’s ridiculous.

We did get to try Liholiho Yacht Club for dinner though. In “Lower Nob Hill” (aka TL), the small restaurant is tucked in between places for massage & coffee.

I attempted reservations but only 10 p.m. was available. So we chanced our luck & lined up at 4 p.m. for their 5 p.m. opening. Apparently many others had this idea as the line wrapped several buildings by the time we went in.

We strategized in line about our seating. Community table? Bar? With only one lone guy in front of us, we scored a booth for four for us two.

After waiting an hour for our food after sitting down, we got our first bites of glory.

We started with the fried oysters topped with beef carpaccio. The thousand island dressing went surprisingly well.

I ate two & HB ate one. He knows how to share & I lesser so.

Next was the beet salad which was enormously delicious. Honestly I don’t know what it was about this one that tasted better than the others before it. Hunger? A charming salad, seriously.

The duck liver toast was so good. With jalapeño & pineapple, on top of honey wheat thick toast. At first the bread seemed too thick but ah, I was wrong! It was perfect & toasted beautifully.

The coconut curry clams were little gems. Sauce so rich, thick & luscious. We slurped this up like a slurpee.

The accompanying garlic naan bread helped us to sop up the curry. A thick, fluffy alternative to the naan we’re accustomed to. I liked it; HB not so much.

We were quite excited about this short rib over mushroom & escargot bone marrow. The escargot was good though the bone marrow seemed nonexistent. The short rib sadly was far too salty for my liking. I could only eat a bit of this before having to pump the brakes. I like flavor but I do not like mucho salt.

Our celebratory baked Hawaii with pineapple ice cream was lovely & sweet as pie. The vanilla chiffon was too sweet for us but we uncovered it to enjoy the cake & ice cream inside.

Happy second wedding anniversary to us! It’s been a crazy ride & it gets better all the time.
