A show of the times

The good feral boy

Watched the Good Dinosaur last night & I have a bone to pick with Pixar/Disney. (Get it?) [Spoilers ahead, obvs.]

First of all, this is an incredibly sad movie. I won’t indulge of many times a tear was shed. There is love, loss & more loss.

The important bond between father & son can be boiled down to 5 words: “You are me & more.” The good dinosaur’s father says this to him & it is so true. The young one is tiny, afraid but he is his father’s son, has the courage of his father & more.

The little feral boy? That is my son. He refused to sleep & bounced on all fours with the movie’s soundtrack as his personal workout selection. The loss of the boy’s family is heart wrenching. Then he leaves the Dino behind? Yet more loss.

This movie is the Lion King, amplified & prehistoric. Now this morning, my eyes are all puffy from last night.

Thanks Pixar/Disney for making a grown woman cry.*

*Feral boy did not respond with tears; rather he exhibited a heightened sense of thrill & excitment. Good for him.
