The little things

Recovery

Days with less support & not child friendly structures are challenging. Today was such a day.

Good dim sum with my dad in South City but the day was surprisingly warm for a bundled up tot. Instead of strolling, I carried the 22 pounder almost all day in the 88 degree heat. Bad choice.

You know you’re a parent when you bring the kid into the target bathroom with you & hold him the whole time

I frustrated when the kid wouldn’t settle (understandably) in the hot car when we were all exhausted. Needless to say, we miss my mom. A lot.

Enough about that though. We recovered. He napped & peace is restored.

We ended up having pho at Kevin’s noodle house with Guang Guang & Uncle Gordo.

He’s my main guy. Everyone happily slurped their noodles (plus my avo shake!).

Sometimes you just need pho to hit reset. Not everyone will support you in the way that you need. There are those that will. Surround yourself with these people.

Eggsy enjoyed his deconstructed beef stew. He’s sleeping dreamily now & I cannot believe how darling he is. Hours before I was at my wit’s end. The irony.

Like running, you can allow for recovery. While worn down, I thought how can I manage better?

Stroll. Carrying for too long is no good (for my back).

Refuel often. Water. Snacks. For mother & child.

Don’t over commit. Schedules that are too packed are tiring for the little one (for mom too).

Use resources. Get help. Or at least minimize situations where the kid will be fussy & you won’t have tools to help you.

This is a tough gig. It’s worth it definitely but parents? Oh you’re champions. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for resting & recovering. In fact that’s the way you’ll last the marathon.
