Midnight Musings

Reflections

I watched this brief video that reminds people to do work that they love. It outlines the average lifespan from zero to eighty, give or take some years.

The majority of our lives are spent working. From when we start until we retire. I’m a visual learner so to see the continuum of our lives on a spectrum is impactful.

I’ve been reflecting on my identity as a mother. Honestly struggling some days, hanging by a thread. Laughing & loving every moments some days.

That video helped to reaffirm my decision to be home with Eggsy. There are a lot of things I want to do & see. A lot of it I can do with baby too. Some requires putting him in someone else’s care.

Someone asked me if I thought I was a good mom. I said yes, hesitantly, & defended my answer by, “I’m doing the best job I know how.” Later I reflected on that response, when I was cleaning up the spilled oatmeal on the floor.

I am a good mom. I deserve to say that. Most parents devote their lives for the betterment of their children. These parents deserve to proclaim that they are good parents.

This is important to me because I want to spend these pivotal years working on being a better mom. My child literally is my sun. I revolve around him.

This does not make me identity-less however. This strengthens my character & my will.

I worry from time to time about the depreciation of my legal skills & other non-momsy knowledge. That can be rebuilt, continued to thrive while on this mom journey.

My child’s youth is already proving itself to be fleeting. The other morning, Eggsy nursing, measured half my body length. The kid is not even two!

There is so much commotion outside. Politics, family, friends, shootings and more. What part do we want in all of this?

Like Michelle Obama said in 2008, we want to raise respectful children who value hard work & who understand that your word is your bond.

I’m telling you, son, that I will be there for you. I will learn more to be a better educated & providing mother for you. You, after all, are the future generation & are deserving of my time & resources.

May we all live into the dreams we’ve imagined. Thoreau wouldn’t lead us astray.

Eggsy expertly scaling the playground structure in his father’s artistic rendition. He has in fact found his voice. What he lacks in diction, he makes up for in volume. Tonight he perfects his welcome greeting (a hearty “hi”). What he means is: Hello World, I’m ready for you.
