A show of the times

Double time

I'm blogging for the school now & it's a different animal. I can't just write whatever I feel like! It's more informational & geared towards parent education. Cool stuff. Today was also my first teaching day & boy! It was a big day. It was mega hot. And I'm feeling mega pregnant. Even when my bump is still somewhat hideable (not in maternity clothes though, ironically). Co-op life. Didn't know what it was not that…

Toddler firsts

It’s time

Today's the big day! Eggsy's first day of preschool is finally here. He's fast asleep (thank goodness). Speaking of eggs, Saturday's brunch at Surisan (Fisherman's wharf) was delightful. Their veggie scramble was colorful & tasty. Ah, yes back to school. Or rather, first time at school! We've been working on moving up his bedtime to something more appropriate & tonight we had a dilemma. Finish Game of Thrones first or away to bed for the…

New Beginnings

Four

Our little family of three will soon be four, come the new year! February to be exact. We’re overjoyed.  Lots has happened lately. Eggsy is now more energetic than ever. I am very tired. Luckily, he’ll be starting school soon(!) so hopefully his energy will be well used.  Eggsy is also finally weaned! A big deal. Some anxiousness over how the process would go but after some initial push back, all went smoothly.    Here…

Eva

Toddler life & procrastination got me like… Off the blogging.  It’s okay because we can return to things seamlessly. I’m practicing compassion towards self & others.  So, Tassajara. Our zen mountain retreat was incredible in they way it was isolated & in the lasting effects of openness & calm. Four friends from around the globe, one destination.  The vegetarian cuisine was exquisite & I made sure not to miss a meal. Our nature hikes brought…

Little smee life

A darling weekend full of my smee. A surprise show at Berkeley’s Greek theatre starring the brilliant Regina Spektor. Thanks HB & Jeff for your planning, thoughtfulness & Jeff for being sick (sorry but thanks).  My sis & I loved the show despite it being outdoor, in the pouring rain. The ponchos saved the night. We stayed until the very end with Samson. Almost every seat was filled with devoted fans who similarly braved the…

The big cheese

Here is a cheese worth writing home for: Saint Andre French triple cream cheese is to die for.  Eggsy and I stand in the kitchen eating chunks at a time. It’s melty, rich & delicious all by itself.  Three cheers for my newfound favorite.  In other news, parenting proves to be continually challenging. In my parenting class, I rate my child’s behavior the previous week & gave him a stunning 9 out of 10. Unheard…

Achy Breaky

.

You are so brave and quiet, I forget you are suffering. –Ernest Hemingway  I am melancholy. Just for a moment. When I ask you, how are you? You say you are fine. Any problems? No. The answers are soothing in a way but are sad. Because perhaps you don’t know how to say “I need help”. You are so brave. And I am worried about the future. I try to plan. Preparation soothes me. But…

Gratitude

87 young.

Happy birthday Guang Guang! You’re as spirited as ever.  Family time at Kome for a buffet celebration. Guang happily chomped away as we continue to recover and regain strength from our caregiving roles.  Cannot believe the amount we can achieve with a group effort. Suddenly stronger, more efficient… and tired. Rest & recovery: necessary not just for the patient but for those that care, arrange & drive to support.  Somehow we have enough. Resources, time,…

The little things

The struggle is real

A lot of heart heavy work lately. Caring for others takes a lot out of you.  Yet, I’m gently reminded it’s cyclical. We’ll cycle through this, like we did that, and we will be okay.  Don’t frustrate. Rest & come back. The captivity of negativity is entrancing. We’re stronger though.  Prayers for auntie while she heals. Eggsy, continue to build your immunity & battle your virus(es).  My friends & family in good & bad times,…
