The big deal

It blooms

Ah, my garden is blooming! My metaphorical garden & well, my little pot of tulips.  Guang Guang is 86 today! Happy birthday to a strapping young lad.    Young & spritely as ever.  Rejuvenated from a good night’s sleep, I’m feeling quite positive. Absolutely sun shining.  Beginning of this year brought some changes that took some adjustment. Now that the dust has settled, things are looking up.    Look at this big boy! It is a…

The little things

The lunar year

Happy lunar new year! Now the year of the monkey brings wishes of good health & prosperity.  We broke tradition by cleaning & bathing baby today. Instead of fearing we were washing away our good luck, we welcomed the change of the new year.  Plus baby needed that bath.  Gone are the days where Eggsy would nurse 0-3 hours. And be relatively still. Now nursing sessions are short & quite aerobic (for him, not me).…

Baby firsts

Let it snow

The holidays are over but we’ve just had our fill of the snow. Eggsy’s first trip to Lake Tahoe yielded a curious & happy baby.  We went with friends on a four day trip to the snow. Our cabin was warm & welcoming. We’re so very lucky to have baby-friendly friends who help keep an eye out!  A definite trip highlight were these delightfully delicious spring rolls in Sac. A different crunch with a fried…

Gratitude

Nai Nai please

Baby has surpassed the need for signing for milk; he can articulate his need.  Suddenly understandably vocal, baby intently asks for what he wants. Attention with Chewbacca noises & plenty of babbling. Pretty sweet.  He is also immensely more interested in playtime. No longer a watcher, he is a doer. He wrangles with the big kids at the playground.   Intentional footed PJs for playtime to eliminate the need to look for lost socks. Or…

Nostalgia

5, 10, 15

Feeling good about the investment of spending time with the people that matter most.  I’m reminded to think into the purview of the future in making present decisions. (Thank you MWG.) Having sweets help ease things. Mango pancake & coconut noodle with fruit. Asian desserts are the best. Light & refreshing bites.    Baby tried durian for the first time! He did not reject it. Two bites in, he’s a fan. Durian sweet coconut noodles.…

The big deal

Oh Brother

Turns out, you always look up at your big brother. At least I do.  When I was little, I always wanted to hang out with him. Play with his toys. He always had the best stuff: GI Joe’s, Transformers, Ghostbusters gear.  I watched my brother play Payday with ease. I always wanted to be a gamer but let’s be honest, not all dreams come into fruition. I’m Conan O’Brien on an edition on Clueless Gamer.…

My little darling

Sunday Gratitude

Feeling lovely this Sunday. Birds chirping outside & a snuggle bug on my arm.  Been focusing on all the wonderful people in my life.  A spontaneous dumpling stop with an old friend yields happy bellies. A King of Noodle visit leads us to our first time trying fresh noodles without meat.    Lots of tomato, mushrooms, & cucumber. Doesn’t feel like it’s missing a thing!  Our green onion pancake & chicken chivin’ dumplings are delicious…

Powerball

So we didn’t win the jackpot. Phew. I’d hate to have to hire a tax attorney & a financial team to help me deal with all that.  Plus it very likely would color my child’s perception of the world. Not good.  I think in our last minute family pot, we collectively won $4. Thanks, lotto.  Still, we’re feeling lucky. I read to Eggsy Obama’s State of the Union address in its entirety. We felt accomplished…

Baby bao

Kid has been keeping us busy lately. Growth spurt? Teething? Who knows.  Leaky egg yolk bao is one of the best dim sum options ever. Who doesn’t like hot, runny, sweet yolk?  Baby is a bao baby. He likes bread. Carbs are good.    Lately he’s been into salmon. Last night we offered him creamed corn, brussel sprouts, salmon & portobello ravioli. He likes the creamy stuff & the salmon. We generously shared the insides…

A show of the times

Episode VII

Eggsy enjoying a visit to his favorite Starbucks. Clearly, this child is BB-8.  Finally saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Pretty excited going in, even more excited coming out. [Spoilers unavoidable, sorry.] Though I find this latest installment of the Star Wars franchise enticing, some criticize the film for being derivative. I found it to be enjoyable, action packed, with strong female characters & good story/character development.  First off, Rey is just a cool chick.…
