Toddler life & procrastination got me like… Off the blogging.  It’s okay because we can return to things seamlessly. I’m practicing compassion towards self & others.  So, Tassajara. Our zen mountain retreat was incredible in they way it was isolated & in the lasting effects of openness & calm. Four friends from around the globe, one destination.  The vegetarian cuisine was exquisite & I made sure not to miss a meal. Our nature hikes brought…

Little smee life

A darling weekend full of my smee. A surprise show at Berkeley’s Greek theatre starring the brilliant Regina Spektor. Thanks HB & Jeff for your planning, thoughtfulness & Jeff for being sick (sorry but thanks).  My sis & I loved the show despite it being outdoor, in the pouring rain. The ponchos saved the night. We stayed until the very end with Samson. Almost every seat was filled with devoted fans who similarly braved the…

87 young.

Happy birthday Guang Guang! You’re as spirited as ever.  Family time at Kome for a buffet celebration. Guang happily chomped away as we continue to recover and regain strength from our caregiving roles.  Cannot believe the amount we can achieve with a group effort. Suddenly stronger, more efficient… and tired. Rest & recovery: necessary not just for the patient but for those that care, arrange & drive to support.  Somehow we have enough. Resources, time,…

Epic

Concerns over exposing my child in his formative years urged me to take a hiatus. As a compromise, I’ll only write of him & post pictures of him less (sorry to his fans).  Feeling empowered over this current administration. Worried about permanent residents and their granting of reentry upon leaving the U.S. Instead of fear, we will unite and grow stronger. Our children deserve that.  The holidays have come and gone. Now it’s Lunar New…

Hello holidays

Let’s not pretend it’s not the holiday season. It’s here! I’m thrilled. So many exciting changes for us & all around us.  We overcame some potentially difficult situations. Now in hindsight, moments of panic were just just feelings of overwhelm. Recovered now.  Baby ain’t no baby no more! This is a full blown toddler. Eggsy is 23 months today. We are celebrating his 2nd birthday soon. We a little more space to celebrate in, we’re…

For you I will

Two little pumpkins welcoming a season of positive change.  Today we went to my niece’s annual IEP (individualized education plan) meeting. It was 3 hours long.  The team surrounding my niece’s education is exceptional. The speech therapist, the physical therapist (that she is graduating from!), the general ed teacher, the special ed teacher & the psychologist, along with my brave aunt & our family are so proud of her development. Clearly she is a spirited,…

My mother

Happy birthday to my sweet mother. You’ve taught me everything.  I wish I had the words to convey my love, gratitude & appreciation for you. I will always try.  Somehow, I got so lucky. My mom is the best.  She is a fighter. That is the best kind of happiness: the weathered kind. She’s been through it all & she smiles, laughs & plays everyday.  May she feel the warmth of love around her. Family…

Novaturient

The sweet glimmer of life. Of powerful change. Novelty of travel (above: on the Hudson River, aboard the Hornblower). Of growth. Sublime.  Eggsy has grown marvelously in our three weeks on the East Coast. New York feels like home & has our self-made family there. Our friends: we’ve missed you.  I am a devout follower of self-improvement. I love that section of the bookstore. I love quotes, books & meditations on it.  There are so…

Bright times

Ash’s & Bobby’s wedding was fantastic. Ash was on fire & hardly a bridezilla. The food at Justin’s grill was good.  The rehearsal at Dinosaur was bomb.    All the girls had a blast together. Every one is lovely & fun.  We’re finally en route to NYC & the tragedy in Orlando makes my heart ache. Knowing my son is learning about this world & shares in spaces that can become vunerable, how can I…

Mama’s back!

Found this little gem (sheep’s milk yogurt) at the co-op on Judah. Delightfully sour!  By mama, I mean me.  Like back in the game. A metaphor I guess.  I’m feeling great, people. Rejuvenated! Had a minor bout of negativity & felt weighed down by all the stuff one has to do. More importantly, pensive about the intense way mental disorder pulls apart a person’s life & how to be restorative (or not).  Good news about…
