Feelin’ good

Picking up dinner tonight, the lady at the register said my baby really looked like me.  Usually people say Eggsy looks more like dad. Of course I know he is my boy but hearing it from a stranger who clearly has no interest in lying to me, makes me feel great.  I am constantly working on my gratitude practice & being a mother gives me a lot of material. Like a good comedian, the day-to-day…

Romy and Michelle

Eggsy finally meets Auntie Romy! He was completely and utterly in awe. I’m not sure he’s seen lipstick before. Up close, anyways.  He liked it.  A very special treat today with Romy & her bountiful La Boulange gems.   The pastries look like a face. Quiche eyes: mushroom (left) & ham. The “mouth” was a ratatouille pastry. I love butter so I loved all of this.  A sweet finish of a lovely berry tart.  …

Lucky goose

Eggsy and I are a lucky couple of geese.  Learned about solids and other baby eating type things at a class this morning. Take aways: Sippy cups were designed for the convenience of parents not for what baby needs. Straight to straw & open cups, per the ortho’s orders.  Babies can basically eat anything except for a certain number of things like high Mercury fish & honey (no hunny until one year old). Certain foods are…

Drooling aloha

This is my son. He drools aloha. See the splattering of islands on his shirt? That’s love.  Aloha Friday brought a wonderful night with Melly where we Marnee Thai-ed.    Coconut hot cakes for the win! As Melly pointed out, there are dessert like. Sweet. I like these quite a bit. Lots of textures in a little thing.  The duck salad I found to be a touch too salty. I do love my duck so no…

Eggy

Tough noogies, my late Torts professor Roderick Surrat used to say.  Amidst concerning health news, I’m faced with a sort of metamorphosis. Time to change. Or change enough to be in good health.  Luckily, HB’s eggy delight greets this weekend. Perfected with creme fraiche. Of course I love it because it is creamy, heart warming & packed with protein.  Coupled with MIL’s dumplings, we’re getting this show on the road.   Thick skinned, stuffed with…

Four month sweet spot

For a long time in my life, I felt I was on the brink of something. Insane courage. Exceptional something.  Turns out, I think it was motherhood. Miraculous parenting. I’m really happy.  My baby is quite a doll. He’s so lively and darling. Don’t get me wrong; he’s got blowout diapers, cryathons, weird rashes… But I can’t help but to be utterly in love with him.  Living in San Francisco isn’t easy. It’s expensive and…

The journey is everything

A blessed day in wine country. Baby’s first time in Napa. A brunch at The Pear with beautiful, charming ladies.  My croque madame on Model bakery bread was delicious. My mom’s prime rib hash was truly a gem. Large chunks of meat with hearty veggies made for a filling breakfast.  Little sister’s chicken & waffle was tasty, with the skin removed & fried. Crisp & juicy. The lovely Mrs. Cordero had an omelette…

15.2

This just in: baby is a hefty 15.2 pounds! This feels like a Christmas miracle, every little ounce gained.  Our little boy, thriving by breastmilk alone, is our miracle.  This morning, I eat a bagel in bed, with my child’s curious eyes watching the thing that goes crunch.  Today I am grateful for slow mornings, watching my child smile & giggle from a long night’s sleep. Night times are restless; impeding teeth frustrate him.  To…

Parental guidance

A sweet time to share with my parents & baby time. My mom’s visit to the farmer’s market amassed the most delicious strawberries, berries & kettle corn. Kettle corn: sugar on carbs. Best combination ever. Does this sound ordinary? It is not.  I have been wanting strawberries for quite some time now. Of course, without knowing, my mother would just have the largest, most spectacular strawberries I have ever tasted. The blackberries…

Sunday KBBQ

We’re so fortunate for our friends who know how to do KBBQ right. Thanks A&R for feeding us so well.  A sleepy Sunday brought us to Philz coffee for, of course, their mint mojito iced coffee. The sweet foamy coffee hits the spot.   Thanks Mr. & Mrs. H for the special lucky money. Baby is so delighted & grateful.   The mushrooms, pork, beef tongue, optopus & beyond were yummy & filled our…
