The becoming

I have been sleeping away from baby lately. I nurse him to sleep & instead of transferring him into his crib, I sneak out & sleep outside.  This works for us. Baby stays asleep, I get some quality slumber.  There’s a precious transformation that has occurred in my becoming a mother.  I thought in this new identity I’d forget who I was but instead I am becoming more of me.  Perhaps I was meant to…

The irony

This kid is getting so big. A picture of his budding size is captured above.  Babies are ironic. When they are tired, they expend extra energy to whine, toss, kick you until all of their reserves are dry and then after running on fumes for a while longer… Finally pass out.  At least my kid is like this.  Every night he fights with me & terrorizes the already agonizing pain of my tendonitis. Before when…

Sweet Tator

Eggsy had a ball with his sweet potatoes this morning. Still preferring the puréed foods, whatever he doesn’t finish, I usually do. We are zero waste around here.   Up the nose is usually par for the course. Excellent. And it’s time for a bath.  Yesterday baby enjoyed the company of his boys club. Everyone’s getting bigger! Soon to be two, four & six months. (The six monther being mine & in the middle.) The…

Naan baby

Thanks TB for picture day! Eggsy enjoyed GGP & having his five months captured.    Baby worked hard at piano practice at home. This is Grandma’s youngest student! We enjoyed some chicken tikka masala at Noori.    We got the naan plain & without butter for baby’s enjoyment.   The saag paneer was still too spicy for grandma but mom (that’s me) ate plenty.    Doesn’t look appetizing I suppose but this came piping hot and…

Busy bee

Funny how when you have more time, you just fill it with stuff.  Yesterday we went to Moonstar buffet in DC & it was Senior Tuesday! I did not know this going in. It was quite sweet seeing all the Guang Guang & Po Pos getting their grub on.  I, unfortunately, had a bit of a sore stomach and my first few plates looked like this:  Sad, huh? Yeah, I was eating like a picky…

One grateful mother

Happy Mother’s Day!  Last night I giddily anticipated my first Mother’s Day.  I felt the same way when I was a kid, knowing I was going to an amusement park the next day.  Another lovely benefit to parenthood: an additional holiday.  To all the hardworking, loving, silly, song-singing, diaper changing, potty training, multitasking, working, stay at home, tired & beautiful moms out there:  You freaking rock.  I hope all mommies are enjoying this day because…

Insomnia

2:30 a.m. and I have already snacked, folded the laundry, visited the bathroom several times & sorted through Eggsy’s clothes to pick out the too-small 0-3 month old ones.  Both baby daddy & Eggsy snore.  Earlier Eggsy sleepily wrapped his hand around mine. It was a sheer delight.  We have a 10 a.m. class about feeding solids to attend in the morning & it feels like the first day of class.  Nervous first time mommy?…

Nervous Nelly

Baby is five months today! As such, it is the official start of the solid food eating era.  As I write, baby is having his usual course a la breastmilk. Afterwards, I will pump some milk to have it mixed with his organic baby oatmeal.  He had already had his vitamin d supplement & diaper changed pre-feeding, so that’s taken care of.  I am a tad bit nervous because today begins what I hope will…

Contemplation zero

Now that the new baby smell is starting to wear off, I’m starting to think about what the next steps are.  Baby is certainly thriving. Very alert & seriously cute. Staying at home with him is rewarding and feels right.  But what about work? Do I go back sooner or later? A lot of change stirring in the pot for family and friends. This is inspiring.  How can our little family make the best choices for…

Bone tired

Being tired as a parent is like no other kind of tired. I remember being pregnant & just being…winded. Like running up flights of stairs.  Good things there are snacks & treats along the way. A grilled cheese at home helps.   Tillamook sharp cheddar all the way on sourdough.    Some Pinkberry to cool off over the warm weekend. I like their mochi; soft, chewy & not too sweet.   Today’s lunch at Little Window…
