Stressorama

Baby’s getting ready for college. Go Cardinals!  A wee bit stressful today with family drama. Manageable. Perhaps if I was working I could more easily avoid these messy situations. Or not.  Ah, the SAHM dilemma. I am happy at home, savoring my little gem. Feels a bit wasteful of my continually accruing interest of an education. Helping others is very important to me & remains the cornerstone of what I hope my career to be…

Club mommy

Mommy & baby play date. Thrice the fun.  Babies seemed thrilled (maybe) to be amongst their own kind. This mommy found it to be a relief to share our mommy woes and wins.  Since we had three breastfeeders in our midst, we had a heavy order at King of Thai. What was first going to be a pleasant walk for eats, turned out to be a lovely take out sesh, after the little darlings were…

To pacify or not to pacify

This has been a great debate in our family. Well, a conversation at least.  We have decided not to give baby a pacifier in an attempt to escape the eventual weaning off of said pacifer at a later time.  The advantage of the binky is it reduces the child’s risk of sudden infant death syndrome. A big deal. Effective even after bink falls out of baby’s mouth while sleeping. Amazing.  Disadvantage is that it heightens…

General musings

Baby may look like he’s sleeping but that doesn’t mean he isn’t hungry.  This little guy wakes up after his midnight feeding at 4:30-5:30 a.m. for his sleepy breakfast.  I consider this to be “sleeping through the night”. In the beginning, I prioritized breastfeeding because it’s very important to me that I try to exclusively do this.  Now I’m getting the hang of it, I want to just go on autopilot.  I realize that breastfeeding…

Manic Tuesday

Two medical appointments later, baby & I are famished. (What’s new?) Luckily a new Panera Bread has popped up near Masonic & it’s perfect for us.  Our steak & white cheddar panini is so good, we have to bring one home too.  The brocoli cheddar soup was on point. I love my soup. Big chucks of brocoli! I was jammin’ up & down the hill to & from the doc’s. Man, I was…

Jook in the eye

Preserved egg & shredded meat jook, or rice porridge, is my favorite kind of jook. That black stuff? Preserved egg. It’s dense, the yolk is creamy & oh-so-good. Today, in my exuberance, launched a bit of jook in my right eye.   It really got you, didn’t it Mom? Never before, in all my jook eating days, has it ever gotten in my eye.  I suppose weird stuff like this happens a lot around…

The time has come

Cold choy. It’s time for me to stop reheating my food and just admit that a lot of meals will just have to be consumed cold.  Baby has a strangely accurate radar that tells him when mom’s about to have some food.  That precise second is when he also needs to eat or changed.  A good friend told me there’s a saying in India that a baby knows when mom is about to take care…

Cry me a river

CHVRCHES’ cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry me a river” got baby jammin’. After when I was holding him, dancing & singing, baby kept bobbing. I’m living a dream, man. I like babies and all, but this one? This kid is a freaking miracle! He’s so strong. He can stand up nearly on his own. Less than three months old! Auntie says he’s physically gifted! Music to a mommy’s ears. He smiles all day long and…

Freaky baby things not to freak out about

I wish someone would have told me about all these normal but freaky things that happen to a newborn. Let me tell you about all the discoveries I’ve made so far. Cradle cap. Looks like kind of like a rash, over baby’s head and eyebrows. The whitish, flakey skin made my baby look like he was the real case of Benjamin Button. More like Benjamin Baby. (I’m referring to reverse aging or the fact that…
