The best day

Basically I’m the luckiest girl. A special lunch with Cordy at Samovar. Been wanting to try this tea spot for so long. I don’t get downtown (cue Macklemore) much anymore. But when I do? Oh, it’s good.  The butternut squash dumplings are oh-so-yummy. Silky squash squashed in there. Our tea selection was grand: caffeinated for him, herbal for me.    Duck, scallion waffle FTW. You know how I feel about butter (love!). Big, impressive chunks of…

GrillsĀ

We’ve been exploring again. IKEA trip with the family. Meatballs & ribs for all.  We finish up in Bay Street to discover there’s Buckhorn Grill as a stand alone eatery here.  My Roadhouse salad is astonishingly large. I’m quite pleased. Enough fried shoestring onions for a week. Or in our case, a meal.  Mikey’s char grilled tri tip was good but not bloody enough for my liking.    More onions, of course.    Mom’s the…

ZuluĀ

I learned the phonetic alphabet tonight. I’m feeling quite accomplished. We had to enter our pile of huggies & pampers codes (finally). We can almost get one magazine subscription with our points.  We tried Kazu sushi the other night & discovered that though they have good tasting & inventive rolls, their cleanliness standard is appalling. (Cockroach sighting. I know; sad face.)  Anyhoo, I digress. The unagi/cream cheese combo roll (above) was pretty good. I could…

Nopabebe

The wee ones dined at Nopalito for some bomb Mexican food. This family friendly establishment had delicious sangria & cheese quesadillas for the simple diner (i.e., 12 y/o & under).  The empanadas (above) were more like tacos with a crispy shell. Delicious, favorful & colorful.  Tamales were yummy though I think the questionable ones from someone’s car in the parking lot are equally delicious. We tried the soup with Nopalito’s own spices & tortilla chips…

Chicken skin

I’m pretty beat. A great day with my mom & baby but it’s exhausting. What does it mean when a good day is utterly tiring? What of bad days? We fuel up at Smile cafe on Taraval. Many people have the same idea. The Tuesday special, hai nam chicken rice is delicious. The rice is perfect & comforting.  My dish, seafood bibimbap, is tasty too. I like the crunchy rice at the bottom of the…

Catch of the bay

This little jewel has been right below our noses. Pacific Cafe in the Outer Richmond has been here forever. We never bothered to try it.  Almost went across the street but instead we opted for something new. We’re glad we did.  They have free-flowing wine for those waiting for a table! I enjoyed it quickly & it made me happy.  Baby made lots of friends while waiting too. Eggsy had an older gentleman professing his…

BFD

We’re finally home from Seattle. After a while, it felt like we lived there. Short term stay; longish visit.  Here’s my TOP TEN rainy city’s highlights (get ready, it’s wordy!): Being with Smity. She is the best! An absolute dream to breakfast, lunch & supper together. She is a busy girl but we have the best adventures in food & travel.  Savor Seattle food tour. For two hours, we explored Pike Place’s culture, history & of course,…

Sweet ReunionĀ

A lovely reunion with my dear Megsie! She is as stunning as ever.     Megsie introduced us to her bomb pho spot: Pho So 1. Far left sits Mr. Dahlia. He is beautiful too.  Naturally, I had the sampler platter. All delicious. One of the better meals I’ve had in Seattle yet.  When someone says this is their pho spot, that is a big deal. How perfect that in the same plaza, at HardWok…

Pizza party

We’ve had some hot hot days by the bay recently. To keep up the heat, we had Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in North Beach.  The Cal Italia pizza was a table favorite. Also the gold medal food network challenge pizza champions winner. Fig preserves give the hint of sweetness that lifts ordinary pizzas into the realm of greatness. No sauce & Italian gorgonzola make for a very savory treat. I shared the inside of the soft…

Spicy fries

HBD TO TB! Thanks for being born so we could enjoy 4505.  Double cheeseburgers for the boys & a single for me. (I just had pho.) The burgers were delicious as usual but the real star? The spicy fries.  Aioli so good, we are determined to ask for this sauce on the burgers next time.    Frankaroni (left) is deep fried mac & cheese with hot dog in it. I had this before & didn’t even…
