The infatuation

This longing, too large for heaven or earth, fits easily into my heart.                                               -Rumi I am hopelessly falling deeper in love with my son. He cooes “mum” & “mama”, melting my already feeble heart.  There is a serious vulnerability now. As a mother, I long for his safety, care & growth. I…

Meat butter

The lovely Rhon Rhon took me to an excellent birthday dinner at Marlowe. The self-proclaimed “New American” cuisine is a host to small bites (of which we had many) & mains (in which we mainly shared). We started with the deviled egg with bacon & pickled jalapeño. A neat, surprising kick. Tiny but mighty! I love eggs!   Next, we had to try the brussel sprout chips. Lemon & sea salt elevate this simple way of…

Sweetness

We were so excited to have sister over this past weekend! Ordering our favorite takeout sushi, Yum Yum Fish fueled our little party.  My favorite roll is the creamy roll, a modified Philly roll with cream cheese, avo, cucumber & salmon on top. I top it with Unagi for the ultimate big bite.    We celebrated the coming of baby Jaxson! Congrats to the growing family!   Baby was so wonderfully celebrated. The earl grey…

Oodles of noodles

Been on a pasta kick lately. A Sunday venture to the land of family friendly Olive Garden proved that the stroller-accommodating restaurant is fit for babies of all sizes.  I didn’t even know they had a kids menu. Before I didn’t care about stuff like that. Now I’m like, oh baby can have his own pasta! Soon.  HB had the seafood pasta. Good. The breadsticks, salad & soup filled us up a bit too much…

Parks & Rec

Park Chalet by ocean beach was mad packed this afternoon. We tried to swoop outdoor seating but due to the overwhelming crowd, we set up shop on their lawn, along with other various families, friends, their babies & dogs.  After ordering at the bar, we tried to make it worth our wait.  We got the burger, ahi sandwich, truffle mac & cheese, ceviche, fish & chips, & Tuscan kale salad.  A delightful meal enjoyed with…

Soul sisters

Preparing for Smity to take flight, I joined sister & Princess Ariana at their dinner at Brenda’s.  Soul food is just that: for the soul. The crawfish beignets were as delicious as I remembered. What I forgot was how sizable they were. Like a savory donut stuffed with cheese & crawfish.     Luckily the girls are into sharing so we had the ribs with mac & cheese.   Their special of spicy pasta with…

The thick of it

Ah, yes it has happened. I am losing my mind slowly. A constant occurrence of misplacing things. Trust nothing to me if you want to see it again.  In other news, Eggsy sat in his stroller WITHOUT HIS CARSEAT! To the outside world this means perhaps nothing. To the new parent, this is an exciting development of growth, head control & ultimately, the young one’s independence.       First, let me tell you about a…

We love dads

Yesterday’s Father’s Day celebration was a day of eating & napping. The first round was at Shai Lai in the outer Richmond.  A hefty wait, to be expected on a Sunday for fathers. We were rewarded for our patience. The tiger prawns were delicious & a special treat from the usual fare. The shrimp balls with glutinous rice were also tasty.   After letting the new dad rest, we arrived very late to Uncle Allen…

Afterparty

After a big night out celebrating the Phus, our afterparty consisted of coming home to see our babe.  Thank goodness for the sweet Smity for watching over Eggsy. Though the poor little guy cried himself to sleep, he was in good spirits upon our return.  Our Sunday brunch was a homemade one. Whole wheat banana pancakes, fluffy eggs & sausage. Fruit, avo, & carrots too.   Eggsy has yet to try his namesake. I was…

Feast

Pork belly mango lettuce wraps at Nordstrom Cafe. My favorite mall eatery. The casualness of mall dining with the festivity of delicious food.  The wraps were visually appealing but weren’t nearly as pleasing as their kids menu.  I bravely ordered from it, holding baby, knowing it is home to some of the cafe’s best dishes. The grilled cheese with tomato soup is heartwarming & tasty.   The real winner tonight was the mac & cheese.…
