Coco baby

An exciting day for all! A spontaneous trip to Little Fire Pot proved baby is not yet helpful in taking down platters of pork, lamb & ribeye.   In fact, he kind of slows me down. That’s okay; I ain’t mad at ya.  The feast was bountiful but alas, too much for our little table of two. This is the Shabu pick for my family when they want to go ham (or beef, really). Here’s…

So a baby walks into a bar…

Moms & babies go to the bar at 11:30 a.m. All for the love of tacos.  At The Taco Shop at Underdogs, we get our tacos extra crispy, Nick’s Way.  This taco looks & tastes like Christmas. Carnitas for me, carne asada for Auntie Jen. If only we could get Rachy out here… The taco is in a hard shell & wrapped in a tortilla for extra taco goodness. It’s like Taco Bell extreme.  The…

Udon

After baby’s six month well visit, we trekked over to Japantown in hopes of realizing our udon dreams.  Udon Mugizo is my favorite spot in Northern California for udon. The beef dishes in particular are good picks.  TB’s recommendation of the Niku Bukkake Udon was quite good. The cold udon with soft boiled egg makes me happy. I like chewy noodles.  Since we arrived an hour before the restaurant’s opening, we had to pacify our…

Eat with your hands

A date with the girls at New Eritrea on Irving for a celebration for the end of the week.  Our first platter was delicious… And not enough food. The fish was succulent, beef cubes tender & raw beef with cheese on point.  Our second platter accidentally came in to-go containers but that didn’t intimidate us; we put three boxes of takeout on a fresh platter & had at it. Nothing like seven hungry girls eating…

These buns

Chinese brunch with the parentals. Aka dim sum. The crispy char sui buns were on fleek. I just learned this new slang. It means on point. New mom trying to be hip.  The rest of the dim sum haul was very yum.   The steamed meatballs are customary & delicious. Fish balls surprisingly good.   We love liver around here. Loved it as a kid & love it now.  We got a sweet seseme dessert…

Comfort food in the fog

A Sunday adventure in Half Moon Bay brings us to Flavor California Comfort Food.  Baby was a touch fussy but tolerated the peas we smushed for him well. The savory egg scramble was decent but nothing to write home to mom about. Made with cream cheese, lots of shallots & garlic, this was filling but not special.  The Devil’s Slide burger with garlic fries was better. Medium rare cook & stuffed with jalapeños & garlic.…

Butter is born

Hello, Buttery Jack. You were what I expected. A sheer delight.  Your beef patty is succulent & lush. Albeit a bit too cooked for my liking, it’s standing in the fast food burger chain should be up there.  The bread is soft & buttery too. It doesn’t overshadow the simple burger formula: patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato & sauce.  The sauce looks like a sirarcha type but isn’t spicy. The alternative is their bacon & swiss…

Bread & table

Eggsy likes to eat both of these things. Today at Cheesecake Factory, baby aggressively attacked all the bread and likely managed a few nibbles.  What is in that bread? Nothing unusual I hope that would cause an allergic reaction. Oh well, what done is done.  I had Renee’s Special which is soup, salad & a sandwich.   A big bowl of clam chowder which was delicious & quite filling. The chicken salad sandwich was on…

Beaux mile

Big day today for Eggsy.   Bam! Babiators. Costs the same as my sunglasses. Sigh. Going to get the kid the wrap around the head thing so he doesn’t lose it. Winning! Finally tried Dragon Beaux on Geary today. The offspring of Koi Palace didn’t disappoint.  Okra at dim sum?! What awesome planet do we live in? Lovin’ it. Gai lan only, no more.     DB has standard dim sum dishes like the sesame balls…

Trouble

Poor little Eggsy woke up feverish. Feverish enough to warrant worry; not feverish enough to warrant medicine or a visit to his ped.  After a diaper change & before he got a new shirt, Eggsy tried on his dad’s tie.   Eggsy is a little skeptical about the workforce. He is particularly shocked by the U.S. & its failure to take care of working families. Oh wait, that’s me.  After a visit to Tani’s Kitchen in…
