Birthday fete

Eggsy rang in his first birthday with his family & friends in Pacifica in an outdoor BBQ.  We were worried about weather but it was beautiful and not too cold. I practiced my chalkboard art with signs for the little babe.  Amazingly, I didn’t eat much at the party. Baby did though. He was bundled up like a little bear.  It’s amazing how things come together when so many of your wonderful family & friends…

Whirlwind one

What a crazy year it’s been. It’s still crazy.  Doctor’s visit today. Baby has the best pediatrician. We are lucky to have access to good healthcare. I wish this for all children.  Turns out baby is fighting a viral infection like a champ. No secondary illnesses. Got his vaccines, flu shot & blood work done today too.  He cried once after the second shot & didn’t even flinch for getting his blood drawn from his…

Just like mom

Another fine celebration with them fine Fungs. Delicious food & delightful friends.  Mom sends me a picture of me and bae. It has a startling similarity to a picture I took of her & Eggsy not too long ago.  The same gaze. The same embrace.  Same love.  I’d be lying if I said my mom wasn’t one of my best friends. She’s really the best.  To share in this journey of motherhood with her is…

Get out of my head

Amami is like seeing my dreams IRL.  When I see sushi in my mind, it looks like this:   Beautiful, fresh, vibrant, stunning. (Aka seared toro with uni.) This is the epitome of perfection. Each piece costs a sandwich. Incredible.    The agedashi tofu is different & good. Not the soupy kind I’m used to (& adore). The sauce is just right in amount & sweetness. Perfectly crisp.    The baked scallop is dreamy (creamy?). I…

11 strong

Eggsy is 11 months today! It is flying.  As they say, the days are long but the year(s) are short.  It certainly feels like a short first year. We’ve had crazy days, some calm moments, a lot of joy & glimpses of frustration.  Thank goodness for grandmas. They are magical. Grandpas too. Baby’s grandmothers are especially wonderful, nurturing & saviors. I don’t have a robust enough vocabulary to accurately describe our gratitude for our mothers. …

HBD

SMITY TURNS 24! Horray, little sister is not so little anymore.  Beyond estastic for your birthday. When someone you love gets older, it kind of feels like your birthday too. That’s why I’m going to eat dessert for breakfast. Just for you, Smity.  Hope you get everything you wish for, in time. Be patient, young heart, it’s all coming. Or not. You’ll have to live with that too. Regardless, it’s a brilliant life & mine…

Trust the process

I’ve used this phrase for years with sort of a half held breath. I didn’t really buy it. I wanted to.  Tonight I’m more of a believer. Today at my niece’s surprise IEP, some good things happened. I thought it was just a parent/teacher conference but it was the annual Individualized Education Plan. It’s a big deal.  Miss May is making good strides (literally) with her physical therapy. Speech therapy is making good progress too.…

Is it true?

Yes! It is! Eggsy is hereby 10 months old! How he has been growing on his first big trip away from home. He handled the flight wonderfully without a cry to be heard. He’s been growing like a little sprout too!   We do a lot of exploring to find baby-friendly places where he can unleash his curiosities. Our favorites include: the fabulous Seattle library with a ginormous children’s area, the Seattle Art Museum &…

We be clubbing

Just kidding, we don’t go clubbing anymore. That’s ridiculous.  We did get to try Liholiho Yacht Club for dinner though. In “Lower Nob Hill” (aka TL), the small restaurant is tucked in between places for massage & coffee.  I attempted reservations but only 10 p.m. was available. So we chanced our luck & lined up at 4 p.m. for their 5 p.m. opening. Apparently many others had this idea as the line wrapped several buildings…

Photastic Annie

So proud of my girl Annie for starting law school on Monday! This girl is so amazing, I’m not sure she knows what she’s capable of yet.  This is the best combination: being on the brink of greatness builds humility while ambition stretched you.  And… This pho is like the Venus de milo gummy that Homer peeled off the babysitter’s butt. Simpsons fans, you know what I’m talking about.  A few things I learned about…
