Sushi Mecca

Foie gras on top of tuna. Peach in there somewhere. Tis delicious. Just a taste of something I love & feel guilty loving. I’m sorry duck.  At Yuubi on Balboa in between 6th & 7th Ave, the sushi comes fast & fresh. Well, average timed really. But definitely fresh.  Greatest hits: sake (salmon, yes sir) & foie. Uni interlude. Nice, chilled & this is when baby wakes up. Top is trout; bottom is artic charr.…

GNO

Sushi Sam’s. San Mateo. 7 girls.  Seven omakase. Stars tonight: seared beef, baby lobster, uni.  Note: Sushi Sam’s puts fancy gray salt & lemon on the majority of their sushi. Exciting at first; a little too much after the first two doses.  Eleven bottles of sake.  Mama gotta get a job. Girls food club is costing us an arm & a leg.  Here’s everything we ate. Enjoy. Panna cotta & green tea tiramisu for…

Fast Food Francais

Sausalito Wednesday. Found a little spot for a late brunch.  Fried oysters with teeny little pickles. All the food has fancy French names but I don’t remember any of it.   The oysters were fresh and delightly crispy. The tomato based sauce was light & mild. Perfection. Deviled eggs for my handsome devils. I wish there were more to them but they are simple little devils. I like my devils spicy if can. …

Burger game strong

Enter what’s touted as California’s best burger. Número uno.  4505 Burgers & BBQ holds my heart on a string. It’s on Divis, packed with sunshine, a farmer’s market & hipsters. Even the sign is goregous. I have a thing for typography & beautifully constructed signage.  The burger is the bomb. I don’t revive middle school colloquialisms for nothing.  This is the burger to beat. You know how I feel about Shake Shack (ride…

Happy 31st Birthdays boys!

To commiserate how awesome us girls are, we take our birthday boys to Bobo’s on Lombard for their slabs of meat.  The crab cakes are divine; perfectly crisp & all crab, no fillers to hold us down.  Known for their bone-in filet mignons, this cut is basically butter on a bone. I could eat this all day. I was tempted to get the Porterhouse, which is 49+ ounces of steak perfection, but alas, reasonableness set…

Happy 33rd Birthday Jeany!

Cheers to a sweet 33rd birthday celebration for the lovely Jeany.  Too bad Cheesecake Factory wasn’t on their A-game but we had a ball anyways.  We enjoyed their Kobe burger with mushrooms (extra mayo, yo), goat cheese & beet salad & their corn tamale cakes.   The gumbo proved to be tried & true for the birthday girl. Even got a the lemon meringue cheesecake to go (with a little effort). Nothing is sweeter than…

Happy Chinese New Year!

Baby’s first CNY. Feeling great. Me, I mean. Baby’s good too. Mom’s first time back in a suit since baby! A little tight around the middle but doable. I admit the top button’s undone. Guess mommies get excited over getting back into jeans but mine don’t really fit yet. Not really baby’s fault but I consistently buy jeans that are too small. I have a strange notion that you should buy the smallest size you…

Duck, duck… Chicken!

Dinner with mother & sister at Lam Hoa Thuan in the Outer Sunset. We’re here for the BBQ but we start off with a Pho appetizer. (We don’t do little starters.) The pho is good, not great but we slurp down vigorously. Apparently, we’re all famished. The three BBQ dishes of choice tonight are roasted duck, BBQ pork & soy sauce chicken. The duck is so good, we order it twice. With our shrimp &…

85 years for the young & 10 weeks for the growing

Celebrating grandpa’s 85th birthday today, along with baby’s 10th week. Enjoyed Kome’s buffet on Junipero Serra in Daly City. I like to fill up on sushi & dim sum. I like the beef stew noodle soup too. I particularly like the hand rolls. You can choose from California handroll, Spicy Tuna, Unagi & fresh Salmon. I ask for no rice so I can eat more! I know, brilliant. Everyone enjoyed the variety of food &…
