Epic

Concerns over exposing my child in his formative years urged me to take a hiatus. As a compromise, I’ll only write of him & post pictures of him less (sorry to his fans).  Feeling empowered over this current administration. Worried about permanent residents and their granting of reentry upon leaving the U.S. Instead of fear, we will unite and grow stronger. Our children deserve that.  The holidays have come and gone. Now it’s Lunar New…

Hello holidays

Let’s not pretend it’s not the holiday season. It’s here! I’m thrilled. So many exciting changes for us & all around us.  We overcame some potentially difficult situations. Now in hindsight, moments of panic were just just feelings of overwhelm. Recovered now.  Baby ain’t no baby no more! This is a full blown toddler. Eggsy is 23 months today. We are celebrating his 2nd birthday soon. We a little more space to celebrate in, we’re…

For you I will

Two little pumpkins welcoming a season of positive change.  Today we went to my niece’s annual IEP (individualized education plan) meeting. It was 3 hours long.  The team surrounding my niece’s education is exceptional. The speech therapist, the physical therapist (that she is graduating from!), the general ed teacher, the special ed teacher & the psychologist, along with my brave aunt & our family are so proud of her development. Clearly she is a spirited,…

Sam food

She’s back! Welcome home sister.    Let’s start backwards. Panna cotta with buckwheat crumble. We ended up at Cassava after exploring the Academy of Sciences.  The four course tasting menu was mouth watering in what may be one of my favorite places in the Richmond. I love brunch here & dinner is quite a treat.    The pork belly was so succulent. Eggsy loved it’s tenderness. The purple potato foam was a nice contrast to the…

Achy Breaky

Be happy now

Oh the achiness of change. In the season of growth, transition & life in general, I’m struggling to be happy now.  And I am.  There are so many moments, sometimes overwhelming, that trip us up.  I’m learning to be humble, to stretch a bit in capacity, with my roots grounded.  It is a tireless work to provide. A mother’s nurturing is endless. I see now my mother’s own ability to love freely, generously.  My child…

Sky limit

Welcomed & said goodbye to our dear Ileana, visiting from Chi town. We ate around town & saw the sights.  Baby was cooperative in being a mini tour guide.  Our first dinner at Luna Rossa was charming. A tiny Italian restaurant, tucked away in the Richmond.    I love discovering new gems right under our noses. It felt like we were in another world though we were just down the block from My Favorite Cafe,…

The big deal

Celebratory era

Congrats to the newly engaged Jason & Ivy! Big congrats to the newly married Amy & Matt!  I turned another year wiser. We celebrated early, on Thursday because the weekend was full of matrimony.  At Bouche on Bush, the foie gras had me singin their praises. The custard is a perfect complement to the tender dish. I wanted more. I settled for the cheese plate for dessert instead.  The sea bass was crisp, succulent &…

Speak

I’ve got some stuff to get off my chest. I just watched Michelle Obama’s speech at the DNC & I must react.  I had an emotional response to this speech. Because it speaks to me.  November represents what the future might hold for us as a nation, as individuals & for our families.  I care most about what kind of world my son will grow up in. This may be the next 4 or 8…

Breakfast of Champions

SEA TOWN BABY

Man, Seattle actually has dream weather. Not too hot, not nearly as a cold summer in San Francisco. I could see the appeal of living here.  Smee takes us to a kickin’ brunch spot, Delicatus. They’re out of potatoes so we get extra grits. We don’t complain. Sadly on at 1pm on a Sunday they’re out of their brioche/bread pudding French toast. We mourn.   The Mess is a mess of grits, spicy pulled pork,…

Reflections

I watched this brief video that reminds people to do work that they love. It outlines the average lifespan from zero to eighty, give or take some years.  The majority of our lives are spent working. From when we start until we retire. I’m a visual learner so to see the continuum of our lives on a spectrum is impactful.  I’ve been reflecting on my identity as a mother. Honestly struggling some days, hanging by…
