Comfort food in the fog

A Sunday adventure in Half Moon Bay brings us to Flavor California Comfort Food.  Baby was a touch fussy but tolerated the peas we smushed for him well. The savory egg scramble was decent but nothing to write home to mom about. Made with cream cheese, lots of shallots & garlic, this was filling but not special.  The Devil’s Slide burger with garlic fries was better. Medium rare cook & stuffed with jalapeños & garlic.…

The Presidential

Finally.  My previous attempt to get four people to share the six person presidential at 4505 BBQ & Burgers was a fail.  But now! But now six hungry girls squeezed into a small wooden bench outside in 57 degree weather surround the platter of brisket, ribs, chicken tenders & other succulent meats.    Luckily the girls were on board to have burgers too.     Aren’t my friends awesome? Yes, they are. Truly California’s best…

Thai burger

Just kidding, it’s just a burger & thai food, separately.  In & Out. The usual dream. Delightful. Kind sister shared our strawberry milkshake with someone who seemed to want it more.  The fries are best steaming hot.  The proximity of burger to doughnut is well thought out. Krispy Kreme doughnut holes for the win. Baby patiently waited while mom scarfed. Later, we enjoyed some thai food at Narin in Burlingame. A nice &…

Happy hour

Enjoying the good weather in San Mateo, happy houring at Paul Martin’s American Grill.  We order enough for baby too because mom is feeding two. No that’s not why; we’re all just hungry. Our mid mall snack was delicious but not enough. How could bread be so good? Really the question is, how can bread not be good?Salmon lettuce wraps are creamy & crunchy. We, however, crave more protein. Enter two orders of ribs. Fall…

Burger game strong

Enter what’s touted as California’s best burger. Número uno.  4505 Burgers & BBQ holds my heart on a string. It’s on Divis, packed with sunshine, a farmer’s market & hipsters. Even the sign is goregous. I have a thing for typography & beautifully constructed signage.  The burger is the bomb. I don’t revive middle school colloquialisms for nothing.  This is the burger to beat. You know how I feel about Shake Shack (ride…

Habit baby

So pleased are people in the Peninsula that Habit Burger made it down to us. Previously a further destination & now localized, the burger joint still has long lines but it’s worth the wait. After trial & error, my favorite here is the Santa Barbara burger. It’s on sourdough (yum) with two delectable patties, avo, & all the usual burger fixings. Paired with the tempura green beans (to make it “healthy” — haha), it was…

Sunday Throwback

Given the current 100:1 ratio of baby to food photos lately, I had to dig deep to reminisce about a prior meal. Hog & Rocks, a gastropub in the Mission District in San Francisco, boasts a foie gras topped burger which we had to try. This visionary restaurant was serving the once banned foie gras as an addition to their already delicious double patty burger. Medium rare, of course. I could tell you all about…

SHAKE SHACK LOVE

Photo credit: The Epoch Times Do you even know me? If you did, you’d know I have a burning love for Shake Shack. This is the epitome of a perfect burger. Perfect bun, beautifully fried portobello mushroom, delectable sauce & juicy beef patty. I talk about it regularly. It’s like saying, hey how’s your aunt Jane. I say, hey I want Shake Shack. Still too far for NorCal; LV is the closest. But it’s still…
