Surf & turf

First comes the turf. Tasty. I learned that steak increases milk production so here we are.  The surf comes from our local haunt, Yum Yum Fish. I wish they had a frequent buyer’s card like boba tea because I would have earned a free platter of sashimi by now.    Salmon nigiri has been our thing lately. White tuna was meh. It’s the super white we like. Call it the-butterfish-belongs-in-my-stomach-fish.  Unagi & kappa roll is a…

Sushi Mecca

Foie gras on top of tuna. Peach in there somewhere. Tis delicious. Just a taste of something I love & feel guilty loving. I’m sorry duck.  At Yuubi on Balboa in between 6th & 7th Ave, the sushi comes fast & fresh. Well, average timed really. But definitely fresh.  Greatest hits: sake (salmon, yes sir) & foie. Uni interlude. Nice, chilled & this is when baby wakes up. Top is trout; bottom is artic charr.…

Mediocre sushi

8 Sushi. What has become of you? Once such a delight found on Skyline boulevard, now is not that impressive.   But it is cheap.  They have a menu where if you order $10 per person, you have access to $2 oysters, cheap rolls, & other goodies.   Not bad, not great.   Our rainbow roll. Five bucks. Feels & tastes like a bargain.   Our bento: gyoza,  agedashi tofu, & beef short ribs. Star…

After school snack

Picked up Coach Smity after work today & got to have an after school snack at Joo Mak. The bibimbap was good & warmed us as a light sprinkle fell on us outside.  The seafood pancake is the best I’ve discovered in the city. Crisp & filled with seafood; this is a special food.  Our sushi platter featured the Sam Francisco roll, philly, rock & roll, & a mystery roll that I ate but…

We have a bet

This is for you, ST.  Tried Kobe Sake in Millbrae because our 9:30 p.m. res at Amami wasn’t ready for another thirty.  So we like try Kobe.  A wonderful surprise with local flavor, brah.  First (& importantly), they have a sense a humor. The BIG ASS BENTO is their four item bento. Naturally, we get tempura, tonkatsu, sashimi, & teriyaki salmon. Dynamite roll was aptly named. Saucy. My last bite dropped in…

GNO

Sushi Sam’s. San Mateo. 7 girls.  Seven omakase. Stars tonight: seared beef, baby lobster, uni.  Note: Sushi Sam’s puts fancy gray salt & lemon on the majority of their sushi. Exciting at first; a little too much after the first two doses.  Eleven bottles of sake.  Mama gotta get a job. Girls food club is costing us an arm & a leg.  Here’s everything we ate. Enjoy. Panna cotta & green tea tiramisu for…

Sushi Sunday

Yum Yum Fish is well named.  My favorite is their Philly roll because their salmon is on the outside. That means more fish for you! The spicy trio: salmon, tuna & scallop. Nigiri belly in our bellies. Baby didn’t not seem impressed with our fish array for he was rather grouchy throughout our meal. It’s okay; it tasted fresh & wonderful regardless.  Oh philly roll, how I cherish your sweet little salmon…
